Dark forest as a space of transformation. • For a long period, colour black was consistently associated with the symbolism of particular places, such as caves and all natural spaces that seem to be in contact with the Earth’s interior: caverns, chasms, and underground passages. Although deprived of light, these are fertile spaces – places of birth or transformation, reservoirs of energy. At the same time, they are sacred spaces that constituted humanity’s earliest sites of worship. From the Paleolithic period through historical eras, they were the setting for almost all magical and religious ceremonies. Over time, caves came to represent places of refuge or transformation, and later forests assumed this role, continuing the tradition of turning secluded or dark spaces into sacred ground (Pastoureau, 2008). #kintsugiart #contemporaryembroidery #kintsugi #forestart
